Russia close to developing cancer vaccine: Putin
Russian scientists have reached the threshold of creating a cancer vaccine. Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that the patients will receive this vaccine very soon.
Putin claimed this in a televised speech on Wednesday. said, “We are very close to developing a new generation of cancer vaccines and immunomodulatory drugs.
I hope they will soon be used effectively as individual therapy methods.”
However, he did not say anything about the exact types of cancer vaccines being developed in the country and how they will be used.
Several countries and pharmaceutical companies are working on the discovery of cancer vaccines. Last year, the UK government reached an agreement with Germany's BioEntech. Under the deal, they will begin clinical trials of the vaccine to 'treat individualized cancers' and aim to reach 10,000 patients by 2030.
Pharmaceutical companies Moderna and Merck & Co are experimentally working to develop a cancer vaccine, Reuters reported.
There are currently six registered vaccines in the world to prevent cancer. These include the cervical cancer vaccine and the hepatitis B vaccine. Hepatitis B can cause liver cancer.
